Where it all started
The idea behind Circular Food Technology and Agrain® was developed by the two of the co-founders, Emil and Karin, during a Food Innovation course at Copenhagen University. In this course, the possibility of brewer's spent grains being used as a new food resource was explored, and found to be very promising. Emil, with Karin as supervisor, went on to write a thesis on brewer's spent grains, further exploring its application and use in food products. The project included a market analysis, lead user focus groups, and an R&D collaboration with a leading wholesale bread producer.
Interest in the concept was highlighted when they participated and took first prize in Venture Cup – a competition for new and innovative start-ups looking to make a difference in the world.
Circular Food Technology was established in June 2018 by 3 co-founders; Emil, Karin and Aviaja, and now with a bigger team, we are working towards a more sustainable future - Agrain® at a time. By using spent grains left over from beer and whisky brewing, we re-introduce a nutritious and flavorful resource back into the food system, reducing global hunger and increasing global health.
